  • Muniz: Sentiments of Love

How is it that there is love in the midst of suffering? Perhaps it is because of suffering that love exists. If we could acknowledge the suffering of others and feel the pain in their hearts, we could change everything around us, and events all over the world. Just as a lack of love brings about sadness, the demonstration of love restores life.

The sentiments of love below were sent by my beloved husband, Ramsey. I share his feelings expressed with tenderness, for I have been given the gift of being a part of his heart.

“Human freedom is a gift from God. It serves as an example of His infinite divine goodness.”

    Dr. Salvador Alvarez

“Love gives nothing but itself and takes nothing but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; for love is sufficient unto love.”

“The first time I gazed into your eyes, I thought it would be only a physical interest. Instead it became a romantic interest, a deep human affection. And now we have become spiritual, political lovers seeking the freedom of our souls.”

“We are the light of justice, freedom, and spirituality. We are the sun of righteousness and consciousness, because of our suffering, pain, sacrifice, and imprisonment.”

“You gave light bringing forth love, strength, life, power, faith, and spirituality in order that I would stand on my feet like a man once again, disregarding the weight of the shackles and chains that had become part of my body.”

  • Muniz: Fulfilling Dreams of Justice, Freedom, and Love

“Human freedom is a gift from God that serves as an example of His infinite divine goodness.”
    The Late Dr. Salvador Alvarez

“One day we will have to stand before the God of history and we will talk in terms of things we’ve done. Yes, we will be able to say we built gargantuan bridges to span the seas, we built gigantic buildings to kiss the skies. Yes, we made our submarines to penetrate oceanic depths. We brought into being many other things with our scientific and technological power.”

“It seems that I can hear the God of history saying, “That was not enough! But I was hungry, and ye fed me not. I was naked, and ye clothed me not. I was devoid of a decent sanitary house to live in, and ye provided no shelter for me. And consequently, you cannot enter the kingdom of greatness. If ye do it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye do it unto me.” That’s the question facing America today.”

The Late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
    National Cathedral – Washington D.C.
    March 31, 1968

“I believe that peace is unstable where citizens are denied the right to speak freely or worship as they please; choose their own leaders or assemble without fear.”

    President Barack Obama
    December 10, 2009

“I am Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, a political prisoner wrongfully imprisoned in the United States of America for the last 17 years of my life. From this oppressive imprisonment, I respectfully celebrate the life, love, and spirits of our brother, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We continue with his spiritual struggle of fulfilling his dreams of justice, freedom and love.”

  • Ramsey Muniz: Christmas in Solitary

    Dear Friends:

Ramsey and all others in the Beaumont medium institution are still in solitary confinement and there is no way of knowing when this status will change. Please keep them in your prayers. We extend our gratitude to all who have demonstrated continuous love and support for Ramsey and we thank God for their loving hearts.

“From within this oppressive and cruel imprisonment, our culture, spirituality and history represent the love that has kept me alive with the power of the continuous struggle for my freedom.”

    ************

I must share that I attempted to play the role of sadness on the night before the coming of my birthday, but our loving spirits, especially our mother, Hilda, grandmother, Rosa, and at the end our father, Dr. Salvador Alvarez, made me feel as if I was truly reborn. We were all laughing, sharing the power and force that God has bestowed upon our lives. They gave me life and love like never before! It is the same love I give to you and we share with mom. Do not be saddened. Just know that your heart and love are within me and nothing nor anyone can ever destroy that because it came from God! Personally, I think that we will be in lockdown for some time, but don’t worry for I only become stronger and most powerful spiritually!

    ************

“We cannot use the Holy Spirit. The spirits is to use us. Through the spirit, God works in His people (Phil. 2:13) But many will not admit to this. They desire to manage themselves. This is why they do not receive the heavenly gift. Only to those who wait humbly upon God – who watch for His guidance and grace is the spirit given. The power of God awaits their demand and reception.

La Virgen de Guadalupe stated to me one cold night, when I felt lonely and sad, “Hijo mio, are you not in the fold of my garment? Right next to my heart you can feel the cosmic pulse of my spiritual creative power.” Later with such calmness and peace I woke up and stared at the fold of her garment and could feel the peace and love in my heart.”

“Cuida a tus suenos, Ramiro, porque no son tuyos. Dios te los presta cada noche para que puedas sonar lo que tu necesites, pero no son tuyos. El dia que te mueras los tienes que regresar tal y come te los prestaron.”

Since the birth of Jesus Christ, He became a member of our earthly families. He is the son of man, and a brother to every son and daughter on this earth. His spiritual followers are not to feel themselves detached from the perishing world around them. The fallen, the erring, and the sunful Christ’s love embraces, and every deed of kindness done to uplift a fallen soul, every act of mercy is accepted as done to him.

Even though I’m confined in this cell by myself physically, in reality I’m not alone. The spiritual world is all around me and they make sure that I continue to live with powerful and profound spiritual force that God and His son, Jesus, have bestowed upon my life.

In one of our conversations with the spirits, I kept asking how I was able to survive three years in the dungeons of Leavenworth all by myself. They all responded, “No, Ramsey, you were never by yourself. God the almighty was determined to prove to you that even in the dark, cold hour of pain, agony, hunger, and suffering, you had and have the spiritual power to overcome.”

    Con amor,

    Ramsey – Tezcatlipoca

Because we have not finished the beginning of our historical lives and the lives of the oppressed, we refuse to close the chapter on our own story, no matter how intently the borders of finality and certainty may close in around us. Unfinished. Even in the confined darkness we are remembered as making a contribution of freedom, love, and spirituality to the present and to our future.

  • Ramsey Muniz: Letters from Lockdown

Editor’s Note: Email from Irma Muniz received on Dec. 18:

    Dear Friends:

Ramsey Muñiz is going on two weeks in solitary confinement. We seek prays for him, as the suffering is intense. The lockdown has come about because of the hostility of others. Ramsey has been unable to call home or receive visits until further notice. The letters that I share have been written under extreme suffering.

To send encouragement and photographs, write to Ramiro R. Muniz – 40288-115, FCC Beaumont – Medium, P.O. Box 26040, Beaumont, TX 77720.

“Where are you, mi raza hermosa? I continue after 16 ½ years to suffer in this imprisonment of oppression and injustice. I was confined for many years in the dungeons of America. Where are you mi raza hermosa? The chains, shackles and continuous solitary confinement presently endured has become a part of my life in darkness and agony. Where are you, mi raza? Many in the so called free world speak of and advocate freedom and justice, yet they refuse to look into this world of mine. Where are you mi raza? Know in your heart that it is my destiny in life to live and die for your freedom, justice, and love in this world.”

    My most powerful love:

Even though I’m confined in solitary, our love has been the most powerful and profound freedom in my heart. You are constantly in my mind and corazon. At times I find it hard to study because my mind wanders off with you. Be that as it may, please know that these are the times when I become a stronger Mexicano in all aspects of life. I’m amazed that I find myself wondering how in the world I was able to survive the three years in the dungeons of Leavenworth. There is no question in my heart that the Creator has a purpose in my life not only for myself but for all humanity.

“All humanity is united with divinity. I’m fit for the mode of oppression and darkness by the indwelling of the holy spirit.”

“In the prisons of the oppressor, John the Baptist was the same in his loyalty to God and his zeal for righteousness as when he preached God’s message in the wilderness. In his faithfulness to principle, he was as firm as a rock.”

    Tezcatlipoca

    *****************************************************

Don’t ask me why or how, but I’m convinced that Dr. Salvador Alvarez was preparing me for these days and weeks to come. He is quite impressed with our studies pertaining to our entire spirituality. He constantly states that from my birth it became a part of my life and that is the reason I have so much love in my heart regardless of the dungeons, hunger, chains, shackles, darkness and oppression. Yes, there are times when I seek the relief of my hunger, but in my heart I remembered that it is written — man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word “proceedeth” out of the mouth of God. I’m praying that we be released before Christmas but it is hard to tell. Incidents were serious – the same that is happening throughout the world today. Ask others to join me in prayer asking God to continue giving me His profound spiritual strength and power to overcome these injustices on my life.

“It is moral worth that God values. Love and purity are the attributes He prizes most. John the Baptist was great in the sight of the Lord. Before the messengers from the Sanhedrin before the people, and before his own disciples, he refrained from seeking honor for himself, but pointed all to Jesus as the “Promised One.” His unselfish joy in the ministry of Christ presents the highest type of nobility ever revealed in man.”

    Mi Amor, mi Corazon:

Please promise me not to be saddened. Be brave and proud to know that we are most powerful spiritually and there is nothing that can defeat this love of ours not only for ourselves but for all of humanity.

“Christ’s work testified to His divinity. Through Him the Father has been revealed. If the disciples believed this vital connection between the Father and the Son, their faith would not have forsaken them when they saw Christ’s suffering and death to save a perishing world. Christ was seeking to lead them from their low condition of faith to the experience they might relieve if they truly realized who He was – God in human flesh.”

Christ, who was also confined in the dungeons of the oppressor, came to break the shackles of sin, slavery, and oppression from the soul.” If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be, indeed.” The law of the spirits of life in Jesus Christ set us ‘free from the law of sin, oppression, and death.’ (Rom. 8:1)

    Amor,
    Ramsey – Tezcatlipoca

We sent the Office of the Pardon Attorney evidence in the trial transcript. During the 1994 trial, the prosecution withheld information that would have revealed the culprit that was allowed to go free and Ramsey Muñiz was incarcerated for life without parole. What will it take for President Barack Obama to provide assistance?

  • Ramsey Muniz thanks his Angels, asks for your Letter of Support

    Dear Friends:

Words cannot adequately convey the gratitude that we feel for the spirituality bestowed on my husband, Ramsey Muñiz. Spiritual insight and messages received have increased in profoundness. Ramsey is surrounded by loving spirits who acknowledge his pain, sadness, and suffering felt as a result of his unjust incarceration. Ramsey now knows that these loving spirits have supported him since his years of greatest suffering.

During these holidays we share this sacred spirituality seeking your prayers and hoping that everyone will gain a sense of gratitude for the spirituality that the Creator has given us. Ramsey asks God to share this spirituality that given us the strength to endure the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality for all humanity.

We live in a spiritually wounded world. Our struggle for our freedom and for the freedom of all humanity is a creation that will one day be able to close the world’s open wounds, which means that God’s creation is unfinished.

We thank you with all the love in our hearts for your kindness, support, and for believing in our God-given freedom.

    Sincerely,

    Ramsey and Irma Muñiz

    Dear Friends:

Ramsey Muñiz remains wrongfully incarcerated. On December 13, 2010, he will turn 68 years of age. Ramsey is approaching 70 years of age and he has suffered greatly. We will not abandon efforts to free him until he is reunited with his family once again!

The National Committee to Free Ramsey Muñiz received correspondence from Dr. Andres Guerrero, graduate of the Harvard School of Divinity, who stated, “We must notify all of the LULAC Chapters and the American GI Forum. Saginaw, Michigan has a great group which I will notify. Ya Basta tanto silencio de todo esto. Where are our leaders when we need them? God, tell us where are they?” Dr. Guerrero speaks of the wrongful incarceration of Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz, a past Hispanic leader of the Chicano Civil Rights Movement, whose contributions and political activism brought about advancements for Hispanics, Mexican Americans and Latinos.

As supporters of civil and human rights, we ask that you talk about the case of Ramsey Muñiz with your family and friends to educate them about his case. Below is a past LULAC national resolution regarding Ramsey Muñiz that will help in this effort. It was signed by past president of National LULAC, Rosa Rosales.

Tell your family and friends that they can help by mailing two letters to request a transfer for Ramsey Muñiz from Beaumont, Texas to Three Rivers, Texas, which is closer to his home. One letter will be addressed to their senator, and the other will be addressed to their United States congressman.

If your senator or congressman has written a letter and received a denial to our transfer request, ask him/her to respond to the correspondence. There is no reason for our request to be denied, since Judge Paul Brown ordered Ramsey’s placement in Three Rivers, Texas in the 1994 trial. In trial Ramsey Muñiz stated, “I would like to ask the Court if I could be placed in an institution close to my family, which is Three Rivers, Texas.” Judge Paul Brown agreed, stating “Well, I will make that recommendation, Mr. Muñiz.” See the attached pages of the transcript which serves as evidence.

Ask your senator and congressman to write to Gerardo Maldonado, Jr., Director of the South Central Region Bureau of Prisons, to ask that Ramsey Muñiz be transferred to Three Rivers, Texas, as ordered by the Judge Paul Brown in the 1994. (If your congressman was not re-elected, ask him to help with this urgent humanitarian issue before leaving office. He/she do not officially leave until in January).

Attached is a sample letter that you can mail to your senator or congressman. The address for Senator John Cornyn is shown below. Please obtain the address for your United States Congressman/Congresswoman and send the same letter to him/her.

    The Honorable John Cornyn
    United States Senator
    500 Spring Valley Road, Suite 1125 E
    Dallas, TX 75244

We extend our deepest gratitude for your assistance in this urgent matter. For additional information about Ramsey Muñiz, please go to www.freeramsey.com.

    Re: Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz 40288-115

    Dear Senator Cornyn:

I write to request that that Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz be transferred to the Three Rivers Federal Correctional Institution in Three Rivers, Texas. His placement there will be closer to home, and this will ease physical and financial hardships faced by his closest family members who are unable to make the trip to Beaumont. His mother-in-law is 82 years of age, and his brothers are in poor health.

Ramiro “Ramsey” Muñiz has suffered greatly for almost seventeen years of his life. He is approaching 70 years of age, and it is time that to have him transferred close to his family.

In the 1994 trial transcript Ramsey Muñiz stated, “I would like to ask the Court if I could be placed in an institution close to my family, which is Three Rivers, Texas.” Judge Paul Brown agreed with his request stating, “Well, I will make that recommendation, Mr. Muñiz.”

Court orders are followed by all citizens, as a judge’s decision and recommendation are given the highest consideration. Those standards are expected in the Ramsey Muñiz case, and we seek enforcement of the order made by Judge Paul Brown in court.

According to the family of Ramiro Muñiz, he has been in good health since his arrival at Beaumont. He has not taken medication for illness and he has not requested medical attention in Beaumont, Texas. Please confirm his current medical status.

The family, friends, and supporters of Ramiro Muñiz request that he be transferred closer to his family during the remaining years of his life. Thank you for your help in securing his transfer back home as soon as possible.

Please forward my request to Mr. Gerardo Maldonado, Jr., Director of the South Central Region Bureau of Prisons at the address shown below. Thank you for your assistance.

    Gerardo Maldonado, Jr., Regional Director
    South Central Regional Office
    Federal Bureau of Prisons

    Very truly yours,
